Ultrasonic rhinoplasty in Madrid
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is an innovative technique that has revolutionized the world of nasal cosmetic surgery. Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, which uses conventional surgical instruments such as a scalpel, this technique employs an ultrasonic device that allows for more precise and smooth cuts.
The result is less trauma to surrounding tissues, reduced swelling and bruising, and ultimately, a faster and more comfortable recovery for the patient. Dr. Sordo is a pioneer in implementing ultrasonic rhinoplasty in Madrid , Spain.
What is ultrasonic rhinoplasty?
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is not a type of rhinoplasty different from the others, but a technology that I apply within any technique : structural, preservation, hybrid or secondary with rib graft.
It involves working on the nasal bone with an ultrasonic scalpel (piezotome), which cuts by vibration instead of by fracturing with a chisel and hammer. I can perform ultrasonic preservation rhinoplasty, ultrasonic structural rhinoplasty, ultrasonic hybrid rhinoplasty, or even ultrasonic secondary rhinoplasty, including rib removal and osteotomies of a previously operated nose.
Advantages of ultrasonic rhinoplasty
Cut without fracturing
The reverse piezoelectric effect makes the scalpel vibrate so fast that it only cuts bone: if I run it over a finger, it doesn't cut. It's the same idea as breaking an eggshell without damaging the membrane inside.
"Hinge" osteotomies
Instead of fracturing the skeleton into loose fragments, I cut one part and leave another half-cut: with a little pressure it moves like a hinged door, always anchored to the nose.
Faster recovery and less bruising
By cutting the bone in a controlled manner instead of fracturing it into fragments, I generate much less trauma to the surrounding tissues. This results in less swelling and bruising, allowing you to return to your daily life sooner.
Maximum naturalness
Because I work on the bone with millimeter-sized cuts instead of large fractures, I have better control over the final shape of the bridge and dorsum of the nose. The result looks like a nose that was always there, without the surgical appearance.
Security before everything
The precision of the ultrasonic scalpel reduces the risk of uncontrolled fractures or damage to structures that shouldn't be touched. It's a more predictable technique, and that precision translates into greater safety for you.
There's always room for improvement.
If in the future you decide you want to make further adjustments, ultrasonic rhinoplasty also allows me to perform a secondary rhinoplasty with the same precision scalpel, making the touch-up easier because we start from a better-preserved structure.
At plastic surgeon Gustavo Sordo's clinic, we understand that every nose is unique, and that's why we offer you a personalized consultation to explore how ultrasonic rhinoplasty can give you the facial harmony you're looking for. We're here to make the nose of your dreams come true!
How are we different from other rhinoplasty clinics?
One of the most outstanding innovations in this field is the rhinomotor , an advanced technology that allows the nasal structure to be reshaped with unprecedented precision.
Rhinomotor and ultrasound: an essential piece of equipment
To perform rhinoplasty with a modern structural approach, it is essential to have both ultrasound and a rhinomotor. Ultrasound cuts and the drill reshapes: each performs a different function on the bone.
- Ultrasounds They are mainly used to make extremely precise cuts in the nasal bone. Previously, these fractures were performed with a hammer and chisel, which caused greater trauma to the tissue. With ultrasound, the procedure is less invasive, which reduces inflammation, bruising and speeds up the patient's recovery.
- The rhinomotor, on the other hand, complements the work of ultrasound by allowing the remodeling of the bone surface. In addition to making cuts in the nasal skeleton, it helps to smooth out irregularities and thin the bone walls, providing a more refined and harmonious profile.
What is the benefit of rhinomotor in rhinoplasty?
Rhinomotor therapy is particularly useful in patients with a wide bone base or marked convexities. In these cases, it is not enough to simply move the bones by cutting; it is necessary to polish and refine the surface to achieve an optimal aesthetic result.
Thanks to the rhinomotor, we can:
- Reduce the thickness of bone walls without causing unnecessary trauma.
- Smooth out irregularities in the nasal structure for a more uniform appearance.
- Complementing ultrasounds, allowing cuts to be even more precise.
- Improve facial harmonization, refining the areas where the bone is wider or more prominent.
In Dr. Sordo's approach, this combination of advanced technology not only improves surgical precision but also offers a faster and less uncomfortable recovery for the patient. Innovation in rhinoplasty is key, and in our practice, we choose technology based on what it offers for each individual nose, not simply because it's new.
What is the price of ultrasonic rhinoplasty in Madrid?
At our Plastic Surgery Clinic in Madrid , the price of ultrasonic rhinoplasty starts at €10.040 and is always personalized: it depends on the complexity of the case, whether it is a primary or secondary surgery, and other factors that we explain in detail on the general rhinoplasty page.
There is a nuance inherent to ultrasonic technology: the inserts of the piezoelectric scalpel are consumable, meaning they have a limited number of uses and must be replaced. This slightly increases the cost of materials compared to a rhinoplasty without ultrasound, but it's worth investing in having your surgeon use this technology.
We invite you to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Gustavo Sordo to obtain a detailed and personalized quote for your ultrasonic rhinoplasty.

The complete process of an ultrasonic rhinoplasty
The process is the same for all my rhinoplasties—initial consultation, pre-operative assessment, anesthesia, overnight stay, and follow-up appointments at one month, six months, and one year—except for secondary rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty with rib grafting, which include hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I explain it all on the rhinoplasty page . Here, I'll focus on what changes when operating with ultrasound.

2. Monitoring sleep depth with the BIS sensor
During the surgical procedure, we use the BIS sensor to monitor the patient's sleep depth in real time, and adjust the depth of anesthesia at all times.
What is the Bispectral Index (BIS)?
The Bispectral Index (BIS) is an advanced technological tool that provides a quantitative measure of the effect of anesthetic agents on the brain. It works by analyzing brain electrical activity (EEG) using a specialized algorithm and translating this information into a numerical value that reflects the patient's level of consciousness.
As measured?
The measurement is performed using a small sensor placed on the patient's forehead. This sensor continuously records the brain's electrical signal and transmits it to a monitor, which interprets the data using sophisticated algorithms to calculate the BIS index.
What is the BIS for?
The use of BIS during surgery allows:
- Precisely adjust the anesthesia dosage.
- Reduce the risk of intraoperative awareness.
- Promote a faster and safer postoperative recovery by avoiding the unnecessary administration of anesthetics.
Thanks to this technology, we ensure personalized, effective anesthesia with maximum control over patient safety.
3. During the operation
The typical duration of rhinoplasty is 2 to 3 hours. Throughout the procedure, our anesthesiologist, Dr. Bourgeois, will continuously monitor you. Meanwhile, Dr. Sordo will reshape your nose to correct any breathing or aesthetic concerns you may have.
4.Night of admission
After your surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room for approximately one to two hours. Afterward, you will return to your private room for the night. This protocol allows us to provide you with personalized care and enhance your safety and well-being . Additionally, a companion will be welcome to stay with you overnight if you wish.
Post-operative period following ultrasonic rhinoplasty
The day after your surgery, Dr. Sordo, a plastic surgeon in Madrid , will visit you to check on your progress and ensure everything is healing perfectly. During this visit, we will perform the first dressing change, a simple and easily tolerated procedure. After breakfast, around 10:00 a.m., you will be able to return home.
One week after the operation, we will welcome you back to our clinic to remove the protective plastic. We know how eager you will be to see the results of your new nose, and we will be delighted to share that moment with you. Thanks to ultrasonic rhinoplasty, it is possible to see the changes in just 7 days. It is important to remember that during the first month after surgery, you should avoid wearing glasses. In addition, you will notice that the swelling will gradually decrease and that the results improve over time.
At home, we recommend that you follow these postoperative care instructions:
- Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.
- Use a raised pillow when sleeping to facilitate breathing and reduce inflammation.
- Follow a skin care regimen recommended by our medical team.
- Take pain medication as directed to control any postoperative discomfort.
- Take the prescribed antibiotic to prevent infections and reduce the risk of infection.
We encourage you to check out our blog for more detailed information about the post-operative recovery process after rhinoplasty.
We are committed to providing you with comprehensive follow-up care after your ultrasonic rhinoplasty to support your recovery and review the results with you. Throughout the first year, we will conduct several check-ups and offer ongoing care to ensure everything progresses as expected. Below is an explanation of the follow-up plan:
2. 6 months later
You will notice a significant improvement in the appearance of your nose, with a more pronounced definition and closer to its final shape.
During this check-up, we will compare your previous photos to see the changes you have made. Although the tip of your nose may still be somewhat firm and slightly swollen, you will continue to see improvements in its appearance over time.
3. 12 months after rhinoplasty
Your skin will have fully adapted to the new nasal structure. Without swelling or inflammation, you will be able to see that your new nose remains natural and without any negative changes.
During this last check-up of the year, we will take new photographs so that you can observe the complete evolution of your nose and compare it with the simulation performed by the doctor during the initial consultation.
This follow-up program ensures that any issues that arise are addressed immediately, and that we review the results of your rhinoplasty with you.
Our team will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have throughout your recovery and beyond. You can visit us at the clinic whenever you like. Your trust and comfort are our priority.
This process—consultation, pre-operative assessment, anesthesia, and hospital admission—is the same for structural, preservation, hybrid, and ultrasonic rhinoplasty. You can find complete details on the general rhinoplasty page.

Dr. Gustavo Sordo, surgeon specializing in ultrasonic rhinoplasty in Madrid
A rhinoplasty surgeon's career should not be judged solely on years of experience or patient testimonials. A much more comprehensive view is based on their dedication to nasal surgery, the variety and complexity of cases treated, training received from other specialists, peer recognition, teaching experience, scientific contributions, and both aesthetic and functional expertise.
In the case of Dr. Gustavo Sordo , rhinoplasty has been part of his professional practice for over 20 years. Between 2009 and 2014, he worked as the second surgeon on Dr. Antonio de la Fuente's team at the Ruber International Hospital, a key period of specialization in facial cosmetic surgery. During this time, he participated in more than 500 facial procedures and deepened his expertise in rhinoplasty, among other areas. Dr. Antonio de la Fuente has over four decades of experience and has been recognized as a national and international leader in rhinoplasty and facial surgery.
This foundation is complemented by specific training in nasal surgery with international specialists representing different schools and approaches to rhinoplasty. In Istanbul, he completed a residency at Jinemed Hospital with Professor Nazım Çerkeş , one of the founders of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe, president of the society between 2016 and 2019, and subsequently president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), whose professional and teaching activity has been particularly linked to rhinoplasty for decades.
He also furthered his training in Turkey with Dr. Ahmet Alp at Avrasya Hospital , specializing in high-definition rhinoplasty , and with Dr. Selim Turan at Yeditepe University , also focusing on advanced techniques for defining and treating different nasal anatomies. Subsequently, he completed a residency at Özel Sağlık Hospital in Izmir with Professor Sercan Göde , focusing particularly on secondary or revision rhinoplasty . Professor Göde is a Professor of Otolaryngology at Ege University and dedicates a significant portion of his clinical and scientific work to primary and secondary rhinoplasty, with numerous academic publications related to nasal surgery.
This diverse training is especially relevant because Dr. Sordo's experience is not limited to a single technique. His practice includes ultrasonic rhinoplasty, primary, secondary, preservative, hybrid, reconstructive, ethnic, and functional rhinoplasty , as well as the treatment of previously operated noses, traumatic deformities, dorsal and tip abnormalities, thick skin, and structural problems that can also affect breathing. The Aesthetic Society specifically identifies him as a rhinoplasty specialist, including ultrasonic and preservative techniques, and also highlights his experience with different anatomies and ethnic rhinoplasty.
His specialization can also be assessed through the recognition he has received within the plastic surgery community itself . His involvement in rhinoplasty training has been documented since at least 2010 , when he participated as an instructor in an AECEP theoretical-practical course dedicated to nasal surgery, presenting the closed rhinoplasty approach on behalf of Dr. Antonio de la Fuente. Since then, he has regularly participated as a speaker and faculty member in specialized meetings.
In 2022, he chaired the Secondary Rhinoplasty panel at the AECEP Meeting , where he also presented his technique for nasal dorsum reconstruction using DCF . In 2023, he directed the AECEP Hands-on & Video Rhinoplasty Course , a theoretical and practical training program with video surgery and anatomical dissection for plastic surgeons and residents, held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia. That same year, he presented his tiered strategy for treating dorsal humps at the AECEP Meeting.
His teaching activity has continued with the presentation of Model T-Plasty for Tip Surgery at the AECEP meeting “Present and Future of Rhinoplasty” in 2024 and of his hybrid rhinoplasty approach at the AECEP Meeting 2025. In November 2026, he is also scheduled to participate with a presentation on hybrid preservation with 365 vector tip mounting.
Adding to this trajectory is a particularly significant step: from attending other specialists' operating rooms to expand his training, he now receives residents and plastic surgeons in his own operating room who wish to learn his method of performing ultrasonic rhinoplasty . In September 2026, he is also scheduled to direct and organize Rhino 360º SECPRE , a specialized rhinoplasty training course that will feature the participation of Professor Werner Heppt , former president of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe from 2022 to 2025 and one of the founding members of this scientific society.
Scientific activity complements this career path. Dr. Sordo is the author and co-author of several publications in plastic and reconstructive surgery, and within the field of nasal surgery, he participated in a 2007 publication dedicated to the complications and sequelae following nasal trauma . His formal training includes residency in Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery at La Paz University Hospital , and he currently belongs to professional societies such as SECPRE, AECEP, the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe, EASAPS, and The Aesthetic Society.
This combination of specific training with different international references, experience in primary and complex nasal surgery, technical updates, scientific participation, membership in specialized societies and training of other surgeons constitutes an objective basis for considering Dr. Gustavo Sordo one of the leading surgeons in ultrasonic rhinoplasty in Madrid.

Frequently asked questions about aesthetic and functional rhinoplasty
Does nose surgery hurt?
Less than people fear. Unlike conventional rhinoplasty, ultrasonic rhinoplasty produces significantly less pain and bruising, although you will experience discomfort and nasal congestion for the first few days. It's normal to feel discomfort similar to nasal congestion after the operation. But with mild pain medication and nasal irrigation, you'll feel much better within a week.
Do you correct respiratory problems at the same time?
Yes. In fact, if you have both problems, it is ideal to correct them in the same operation because they are often linked, the result is better when addressing them together and you do not have to undergo the same operation twice.
Can I return to social life as soon as I have the operation or how long do I have to wait?
Yes. There are patients who can lead a normal life on the second day after surgery. However, you can return to your social life in 6-7 days at the latest. With ultrasonic rhinoplasty, there are no bruises and the swelling is much less than with traditional rhinoplasty, so once we remove the splint, you can return to your daily routine.
When will the final result of an ultrasonic rhinoplasty operation be seen?
Four weeks after the operation, we will see a result close to the final result. You will look very natural and will be able to have a full social life without it being noticeable that you have had surgery. During the following months, the nose will continue to be defined and gradually improved until it reaches its final shape after one year.
What is ultrasonic rhinoplasty and how does it differ from a regular rhinoplasty?
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is not an alternative technique: it is the technology I use to work on the nasal bone with an ultrasonic scalpel (piezotome) instead of fracturing it with a chisel and hammer, within any technique—structural, preservation, hybrid, or secondary. It cuts with millimeter precision and is more respectful of the surrounding soft tissues.
