Rhinoplasty: straight dorsum and natural result in women
Case fact sheet
- Patient: 24 year old woman
- Point: Congenital right choanal atresia, which had kept that nasal cavity closed since birth
- Intervention: Joint surgery with otolaryngology — May 2023. Opening of the right choanal atresia and, in the same surgical time, structural rhinoplasty with ultrasonic (piezoelectric) bone instrumentation
- Structure: spreader grafts and septal extension graft
- Result: The patient is breathing through her right nostril for the first time in her life, in addition to the aesthetic improvement.
- Surgeon: Dr. Gustavo Sordo, with the otolaryngology team
Unilateral choanal atresia can go unnoticed for years because the patient breathes through the unaffected side and becomes accustomed to it. When it is corrected in adulthood, the functional change is immediate: the obstructed airway is ventilated for the first time.

If you're looking at this case for a specific reason.
Seeing case studies helps, but it doesn't replace an examination: the bone, cartilage, and thickness of your skin determine the limits of what can be achieved. We explain this in our rhinoplasty in Madrid section.
Do you want to know if this can be done in your case?
The first consultation is with Dr. Sordo, either at the Chamberí clinic or via video consultation. You'll leave knowing if you're a candidate, which technique is right for you, and how much it costs.
