Nose surgery to breathe well: Which is the ideal one?

A high percentage of patients who come to our clinic to inquire about ultrasonic rhinoplasty tell us the same thing: "I have breathing problems and I don't like my nose , can everything be corrected in a single ultrasonic rhinoplasty operation ?"

Others, however, have learned to live with nasal breathing difficulties, believing them to be normal or untreatable. All these patients are pleasantly surprised to learn that these breathing problems are easily treated using functional rhinoplasty procedures.

Functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty in a single operation

In most cases, the patient's breathing problems are associated with dissatisfaction with the cosmetic aspect. It is recommended to perform both procedures (cosmetic and functional) simultaneously, as the result is better.

Only with ultrasonic rhinoplasty can we achieve precise bone reshaping , allowing us to make both aesthetic and functional improvements simultaneously. This reshaping is possible thanks to a special piezoelectric scalpel that replaces the chisel and hammer used in traditional rhinoplasty, providing not only greater precision but also a faster and more comfortable recovery .

This is the most frequent question we receive: someone who doesn't like their nose and also has trouble breathing. The good news is that both issues can be resolved in the same surgical procedure because they share a common origin. A deviated septum pulls the nasal pyramid along— wherever the septum goes, the nose follows —so correcting the septum is both a functional procedure and one that straightens the aesthetic axis.

In addition, there are two things we always consider: the turbinates —the one on the opposite side of the deviation is often enlarged and sometimes even causes rhinogenic headaches (Gupta et al., 2019, Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg )—and the internal nasal valve , which is the point of greatest resistance to airflow and which preservation techniques respect particularly well, because we don't open the nasal roof. Therefore, preservation is not just an aesthetic decision: it also improves breathing.

What functional improvements can we achieve with ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

Thanks to ultrasonic rhinoplasty the patient will achieve stabilize the nasal airway y will improve the following pathologies, if you suffer from them: rhinitis, asthma, pharyngitis and migraines. Also I know will correct the deviated septum of patients who have it.
Many plastic surgeons when performing rhinoplasty use a “reductive” techniqueThat is, they eliminate and remove parts of the nose, making it smaller, forgetting about the support and nasal structure.

However, at Dr. Sordo's clinic, we place great importance on creating a new support structure for the nose we are operating on. It's not just about "removing" but about "adding" where necessary, providing stability. This is achieved through strategically placed grafts and sutures. Only in this way can we achieve stable and long-lasting results, with less risk of nasal tip drooping , abnormal scarring, nasal collapse, and breathing difficulties, which can be experienced by patients who have undergone rhinoplasty using other, outdated techniques.

What aesthetic improvements can we achieve with ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

With ultrasonic rhinoplasty, we not only achieve functional improvements, but also excellent bone remodeling, allowing for great precision in aesthetic enhancements . These aesthetic improvements may include, depending on each patient's needs: shaving of the nasal bridge , correction of a deviated profile, refinement of the nasal tip, nasal narrowing, and correction of nasal drooping.

Objective of ultrasonic rhinoplasty

When we perform ultrasonic rhinoplasty, our goal is to create an optimal nose from the inside out— a stable and long-lasting result. We aim for an aesthetically pleasing nose, suited to the patient's features, with perfect breathing function. Many patients are unaware of their previous poor breathing until they undergo functional rhinoplasty.

Personalized diagnosis before rhinoplasty

To determine what modifications can be made to the patient's nose and the results they will obtain, both aesthetic and functional, we perform a personalized aesthetic diagnosis for each case.

In the first consultation with Dr. Sordo, the plastic surgeon will analyze the patient's case and perform a computerized rhinoplasty simulation of the result that will be obtained with ultrasonic rhinoplasty.
